The Art of Motivation in Scouting*
Motivation is the key to success of any business, as this motivation should be present in the Boy Scouts groups, and also the Scouts Society should motivate its members both young and adults to make more progress and achieve better results.
Effective motivation comes by delivering messages that meet the individual's psychological or internal needs, in order to motivate people we have to understand that every behavior is directed towards a need, therefore the psychological needs of individuals is very important and by meeting these needs we will encourage our members and young leaders to achieve Their potential.
In Scouting, six basic needs have been identified, which, if met, will lead to effective stimulation without resorting to “stick and carrot” or “intimidation” tactics.
1. The need for caring:
This need is met simply by reaching out to people, where the aspects of friendship and mutual interest in Scouting are very strong, smiles, handshakes, friendliness and sharing with others everything, help people grow and feel cared for, while the absence leads to feelings of loneliness, panic and widespread hostility.
2. The need for security:
Individuals who feel insecure are far from safe, so there is a need to encourage and encourage our members from the beginning of their joining in the scout movement, also training and supporting adults increases the sense of security, which is on the responsibility of the trainers leaders and facilitators who have to make every effort to build a sense of understanding in the trainees Who are important in scout groups or in national associations.
3. The need to confess:
The need for recognition is also required, everyone demands to feel appreciated and respected, recognition of a good effort or good work is essential and if not met, the work will turn into unacceptable behavior such as sabotage, destruction or non-cooperation.
Scouts usually meet this need through ceremonies, honors, awards, etc. Praise and support are invaluable tools.
4. the need for purpose and meaning:
Knowing what it means to participate is one of the most powerful messages we can convey to others and it reflects our sense of why we work.
what is our aim ? Every individual in the organization needs a sense of purpose to help them develop destiny and expression reporting, where Scouts are individuals and leaders to see the value of what they do.
5. the need for experience:
All individuals seek new experiences to broaden their horizons and increase knowledge and skills, If there is no sense of exploring new experiences, challenges or opportunities for advancement, people lose interest in the place and look for their interests elsewhere.
6. The need to belong
People need a structure to belong to, so if we want to deliver the message of the organization in which we work and promote belonging among members, we must give them individual attention, where loyalty contributes to the sense of unity we desire, whether it is a Scout troop or the National Scout Association, which is the cornerstone of joint action.
Stimulus creates momentum of action in people, it delivers us to sick results and helps overcome challenges and expectations related to our performance, motivation is a proactive response to action, whether through spoken, written word or through our actions.
So we need to create an environment where people are motivated internally, the art of motivating people is not something that happens overnight, it requires genuine care and a sense of purpose.
